Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center (FDRMC) Detachment Rota, Spain successfully completed a 102-day selected restricted availability (SRA) on Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64) in Rota, Spain, July 8.

This SRA marks the fourth on-time completion of the four SRAs completed to date in Spain, each of which increased in complexity.

During the availability, the team completed a total of 111 work items with key repairs -- including structural repairs to the O-5 level deck, engine stacks, preservation of Main Engine Room 1, and installation of more than 750 square feet of special tile by ship's force.

"A key factor in the success of this availability was the unparalleled teamwork among FDRMC departments (waterfront operations, quality assurance, and engineering); the leadership and crew of the Carney; Commander, Destroyer Squadron 60; Naval Supply Systems Command; Naval Sea Systems Command; Program Executive Office Integrated Warfare Systems; Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command; and Navantia (prime contractor)," said Carney's Project Manager Justin Thivierge.

FDRMC Commanding Officer Capt. Jerry Zinni said he attributes Carney's success to the strict adherence to schedule, the high degree of trust among all of the key stakeholders, and a strong culture of ownership among the entire team.

FDRMC Detachment Rota was formally established in 2013 with the mission to oversee industrial engineering and contractor services for the maintenance and modernization of four Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers in Rota -- USS Porter (DDG 78), USS Donald Cook (DDG 75), USS Ross (DDG 71) and Carney.
