Naval Supply Systems Command Global Logistics Support (NAVSUP GLS) celebrated its 10-year anniversary with a commemorative run/walk outside its headquarters building, August 10.

Twelve runners competed in a friendly 5-kilometer race, while another eight walkers took to the pavement in a 1-mile walk around San Diego's famed Seaport Village.

"We here at the NAVSUP GLS headquarters feel honored and lucky to be located in beautiful San Diego," said NAVSUP GLS commander Rear Adm. James McNeal. "What better way to commemorate our 10-year anniversary than with a run/walk right here in our beautiful city?"

Winning the 5-kilometer race in a close competition was NAVSUP GLS Command Master Chief (AW/SW) Pablo Cintron.

"Events like this, in celebration of the NAVSUP GLS 10-year anniversary, are all about camaraderie and esprit-de-corps," said Cintron. "I'm proud to be a part of events like this, that also hi-light the Navy's culture of fitness. It's a win-win in my book."

Administration of the event was a team effort - the event was sponsored by the NAVSUP GLS wardroom, with additional event personnel volunteering from the senior enlisted mess. Naval Branch Health Clinic San Diego provided additional corpsmen to ensure a safe environment for the runners and walkers alike.

Lt. Manyin Williams, who along with fellow wardroom board member Lt. j.g. Michael Zervas, played a critical role in organizing and facilitating the commemorative run/walk.

"Everyone on the event team pulled together - from ground-up to across the finish line - to make today a fun, healthy race for all to enjoy," said Williams. "It's a great way to reflect on 10 years of an organization's existence, and I hope we do it again for our 20th."

NAVSUP GLS provides global logistics for a global Navy. The organization is made up of approximately 6,300 military and civilian logistics professionals operating from 105 locations worldwide providing an extensive array of integrated global logistics and contracting services to Navy, Marine Corps, joint operational units and allied forces across all warfare enterprises.
