Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded a $9.6 million task order Aug. 8 in San Diego, for the construction of the Combat Service Support Facility for Marine Corps Special Operations Command (MARSOC) at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

"In recent years, our team has focused on design-build projects," said Cmdr. Amanda Barber, NAVFAC Southwest assistant operations officer. "This major vertical construction project is an initial example of our resurgence in developing our in-house design technical proficiency. A lot of hours and effort went into this project and the team did a wonderful job overcoming the learning curve of a full design in addition to their normal workload. I'm very proud of our team's success."

The facility is planned to provide administrative, operational, and maintenance spaces for the West Coast-based combat service support organization units of 1st Marine Raider Support Battalion assigned to MARSOC.

"This project allows the engineers to be collocated with the logistics company within the MARSOC compound to provide better support to the units they support," said Katherine Carretti, MARSOC project engineer.

A&D General Contracting Inc. of Santee was awarded the task order to construct the logistics company headquarters, operations, and maintenance support facility.
