Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support (NAVSUP WSS) hosted a visit to its Philadelphia site by Thomas Dee, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Expeditionary Programs and Logistics Management (DASN (E&LM)) and his Logistics Management staff, Jan. 14.

During the visit, NAVSUP WSS senior leaders discussed with Dee various topics including current initiatives, future readiness strategies, Performance Based Logistics (PBL), and continued development of the workforce.

"Dee is a strong advocate at the Pentagon for our workforce, PBL efforts and our logistics and IT systems, so it is an absolute pleasure to share with him our key initiatives and successes as well as our future plans to continue to support the fleet," said Rear Adm. Paul J. Verrastro, commander, NAVSUP WSS.

Dee took the opportunity to visit workspaces of NAVSUP WSS' Integrated Weapon Systems Teams for a close-up look at their in-house operations and also hear firsthand about the accomplishments and initiatives of the P-8 and AV-8B teams.

The visit concluded with Dee briefing the NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center and NAVSUP WSS workforces on current strategic initiatives, Agility and Innovation, Acquisition Workforce, Acquisition Program Support, PBL initiatives, and DON Property Management.

"NAVSUP WSS is a PBL Center of Excellence and you are very well respected for the work you do here," said Dee. "I am really encouraged by your innovation, agility, and collaborations, which molds NAVSUP WSS' ability to make better buying decisions earlier on for essential programs."

Employees were also given the chance to ask Dee his opinion on topics focusing on auditability, lifecycle logistics, and acquisition program support.

Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and Norfolk employees participated in the discussions via video teleconferencing.
