Sailors from Training Support Center (TSC) San Diego raised Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) awareness throughout its various locations in the San Diego area during the month of April.

TSC San Diego was among the 16 local commands from the area that competed in the 2nd annual SAPR Cup aboard Naval Base San Diego (NBSD).

SAPR Cup participants competed in a series of events that included a tire flip relay, 400 meter relay, pull-ups, pushups, tug-o-war, SAPR trivia, and a 1-mile race.

TSC San Diego placed 2nd in both the men's and women's pull-up competition.

"The chance to bring awareness to real and powerful events is beyond essential to helping all Sailors ," said Lt. Edem Atsu-Swanzy, TSC San Diego command fitness leader. "I truly look forward to more commands and services bringing awareness to these events."

Guest speakers from NBSD Fleet and Family Support Center, Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) provided additional SAPR training to the TSC San Diego staff on proper reporting procedures for sexual assaults and the role each organization plays in the process.

"Sexual assault continues to be a problem in the military as a whole and we've been fortunate to have subject-matter experts from these organizations help educate our Sailors on the many resources available to them," said Chief Aviation Ordnanceman Randy Quihuis, TSC San Diego sexual assault response coordinator.

In addition, TSC San Diego Sailors decorated the command with Safe Helpline information posters, teal ribbons, and SAPR awareness booths to help raise awareness.

"It's important for Sailors from all ranks to know their part and do their part to help prevent sexual assault," said Capt. John D. Wilshusen, TSC San Diego commanding officer. "Preventing sexual assault is not just restricted to the month of April; it is a life-long duty as decent people."
