Cmdr. Maryann Mattonen was succeeded as officer-in-charge (OIC) of Naval Branch Health Clinic (NBHC) Mayport by Cmdr. Evelyn Tyler in a change of charge ceremony Sept. 4 at the clinic.

Mattonen assumed the duties as Interim OIC in June 2014, after a successful tour as Chief of Medical Plans and Operations in the Office of the Command Surgeon at Joint Task Force Civil Support, U.S. Northern Command.

"When I accepted orders to Naval Branch Health Clinic Mayport I had no idea my first fourteen months would turn out as wonderful as it did," said Mattonen. "I would like to thank each of our more than 250 military, civilian and contract workers for making this one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. And I feel extremely lucky to continue working with you all as I assume the senior nurse role here."

Upon arrival to NBHC Mayport - the Navy's third largest branch health clinic - Mattonen was selected to serve as interim OIC while the position was gapped.

Over the past 14 months, under Mattonen's leadership, NBHC Mayport staff have supported more than 108,000 medical visits, 21,000 dental visits, filled over 201,000 prescriptions, and conducted over 30,000 lab procedures. The clinic also successfully expanded operations during an unprecedented 42 percent increase in patient enrollment and arrival of 1,500 additional Sailors from five ships who now call Naval Station Mayport home.

Cmdr. Tyler, a native of Chicago, Illinois, is NBHC Mayport's newest OIC after a successful tour as a Nurse Corps assignment officer and interim head Nurse Corps detailer at Navy Personnel Command, Millington, Tennessee.

Tyler brings with her more than 20 years of leadership and health care experience, with tours of duty at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Va.; Naval Hospital Naples, Italy; Branch Health Clinic Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Va.; Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Bethesda, Md.; and U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa, Japan. Tyler also deployed with Fleet Hospital Portsmouth, Va. in support of Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom and as senior nurse in support of Expeditionary Medical Facility Djibouti, Africa.

NBHC Mayport cares for 17,000 enrolled patients at Naval Station Mayport-home to U.S. 4th Fleet Headquarters, 47 tenant commands, 19 naval ships, four helicopter squadrons, and future home of Littoral Combat Ship Squadron 2 Headquarters and six assigned ships. It is one of NH Jacksonville's six health care facilities located across Florida and Georgia. Of NH Jacksonville's patient population, more than 71,000 active and retired sailors, soldiers, Marines, airmen, guardsmen and their families are enrolled with a primary care manager and Medical Home Port team at one of its facilities.
