Chief of Naval Personnel Vice Adm. Bill Moran visited Naval Support Activity (NSA) Naples, Italy, Oct. 14, to meet with and answer Sailors' questions at an All Hands call during a scheduled visit to Europe.

Since Moran's visit 15 months ago, 6th Fleet area of operations has seen many changes. One includes Operation Atlantic Resolve, a demonstration of continued collective security commitment to NATO and enduring peace and stability dedication in the region. Regional allies and partners have been taken steps to enhance regional security, include the addition of USS Porter (DDG 78) and USS Carney (DDG 64), the third and fourth forward-deployed Naval forces ships to Rota, Spain. Also, the Fleet teams participated in exercises and operations on two continents.

Moran recognized this higher operational tempo during the visit.

"It's only gotten busier since we were here a year ago, and rather than listening to briefs in Washington about what's going on, it's very helpful to get out here and talk to Sailors and see what their perspectives are," he said. "And to thank them for what they're doing because they're working harder and harder in an area of responsibility that is busier and busier."

He also thanked them for their feedback that he "would take back to Washington."

"It's amazing how informed our Sailors are these days about what's going on, the retirement questions, the advancement question," said Fleet Master Chief April Beldo, Manpower, Personnel, Training and Education. "It's a breathe of fresh air to know that they want to know about them and their peers, and it's not really individualized. That means that information is getting to them and they want the big picture also, so they can be informed."

Moran further spoke about current and upcoming programs and stressed his three principles of "Trust, Balance and Stability."

Moran, along with Beldo, fielded questions about current and proposed retirement plans, changes to the physical readiness, year group management, detailing, changes to the maternity policy and several other concerns voiced by the Sailors.
