The Second Class Petty Officers Association (SCPOA) aboard the submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40) made it possible for both on and off-duty Sailors to celebrate Halloween with their families on board, Oct. 31.

The SCPOA worked together with the Junior Enlisted Association (JEA) to turn a repair department passageway into a haunted house for families to walk through.

"It was for Sailors morale, and the families, so they wouldn't miss out on those moments because of duty," said Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Christian Lopez, president of the SCPOA.

Capt. Andrew St. John, commanding officer of Frank Cable, welcomed Sailor's families with candy and goodies donated by the Fleet Readiness Group as soon as they stepped aboard the quarterdeck.

Sailors spent more than four hours transforming the repair passageway into a family-friendly house of horrors. White sheets splattered with fake blood hung from the overhead, along with orange and black cobwebs and ghost streamers. The deck was lined in neon lights, a smoke machine and Sailor's donned costumes and hid, ready to spook their families.

"My family came and it was great. It was kid-friendly and a great way to celebrate Halloween for everyone on duty," said Lopez.

Funding for the event came from the Frank Cable Chief Petty Officers and First Class Petty Officers Associations.

More than 35 families celebrated Halloween with their Sailors aboard Frank Cable, both on and off duty. Frank Cable, forward deployed to the island of Guam, conducts maintenance and support of submarines and surface vessels deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility.
