The Navy will shift from releasing sexual assault reports every week to releasing the reports monthly beginning in November. The shift is a result of the Navy's Sexual Assault Prevention Response (SAPR) office switching from utilizing unit situation reports (SITREP), a manual method filled with inconsistencies, to utilizing the new Defense Sexual Assault Incident Database (DSAID) to compile data for the report. Information such as incident location, date of incident and alleged offender is not always present in DSAID within the first couple weeks of a report necessitating the need to switch to a monthly report. DSAID is a congressionally mandated authoritative database for sexual assault reporting and tracking. Using this database eliminates the counting and transposition errors associated with SITREPs, providing a more accurate picture of the reports being made.
