07 May 2015

Kickball isn't just for school-age children, as the U.S. Pacific Fleet (PACFLT) Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions (CSADD) proved by hosting a friendly game of kickball on Pearl Harbor, May 5.
Kickball isn't just for school-age children, as the U.S. Pacific Fleet (PACFLT) Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions (CSADD) proved by hosting a friendly game of kickball on Pearl Harbor, May 5.

CSADD Sailors coordinated the game with the Chiefs Mess, First Class Petty Officer Association (FCPOA), and Junior Enlisted Association (JEA) to promote May's physical fitness topic.

"Physical fitness is important for everyone," said Yeoman 2nd Class Travis Leon, PACFLT CSADD president. "Throughout the years, the Navy's physical fitness program has changed, but the Physical Fitness Assessment's (PFA) effect on a Sailor's careers remains the same."

Sailors tend to get caught up in the daily grind and staying physically active often falls by the wayside, said PACFLT's Command Master Chief Teresa Carroll.

"Too often we think we are too busy to carve some time out of our day and have what I call 'me time,'" said Carroll. "Educating our Sailors that physical fitness helps us focus, relieves stress, and leads to better health."

Leon went on to say that physical fitness is important and that it can be accomplished many different ways.

"Our intention is to provoke thought, inspire young leaders to discuss the issue of physical fitness and mentor Sailors on a junior level," said Leon. "CSADD organization was created for this purpose and what better way of showing support than a good game of kickball."

While the game was won by the combination team of Chief's Mess, JEA, and CSADD, there was clear fellowship on both sides.

"The game was pretty competitive, and it was hot, but we had fun," said Leon. "Between the Chief's Mess, JEA, FCPOA, and CSADD the comradery was very apparent. I hope we have many more events that turn out as good as this one."

CSADD's mission is to create a culture in which shipmates are helping shipmate maintain a course of success through good decision-making.
