On March 22, a Sailor assigned to Navy Personnel Command (NPC) tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). The Sailor is currently following medical guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Guidelines. The Sailor presented symptoms March 20, was tested for COVID-19 at Baptist East Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., and was immediately directed to self-quarantine. This is the second Sailor at NPC to test positive. The first occurred on March 20. These individuals work in separate buildings. NPC is committed to taking every measure possible to protect the health of our force. Command leadership and Public Health Administrative Officers from the Public Health Department have determined all personnel who interacted with the positive individual, have notified all individuals who would be at risk of contracting COVID-19, and isolated them for 14 days. We remain in close coordination with state and federal authorities as well as public health authorities to ensure the well-being of our personnel and local population. NPC is following the guidelines set forth by the Department of Defense, and all personnel who travelled overseas are currently isolated for the 14-day self-observation period. Additionally, any personnel who work in areas surrounding staff members who do test positive for COVID-19 will be put on 14-day Restriction of Movement (ROM). Additionally, preventative measures are being taken to ensure the safety and health of all NPC personnel. Affected areas have been cleaned and sanitized. Navy Personnel Command is maximizing telework and alternative work schedules. Social distancing is being strictly enforced in and out of the office areas, and personnel are rigorously encouraged to keep their spaces sanitized, exercise proper hygiene and follow the CDC protocols at all times.
