Norfolk Naval Shipyard Civilian Tests Positive For COVID-19

On March 23, a Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) Portsmouth, VA civilian employee temporarily assigned to the Nuclear Power Training Unit (NPTU) Ballston Spa, New York tested positive for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

On March 23, a Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) Portsmouth, VA civilian employee temporarily assigned to the Nuclear Power Training Unit (NPTU) Ballston Spa, New York tested positive for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). 

The civilian is currently isolated at their lodging and restricted in movement in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Guidelines. 

A thorough contact investigation to determine whether any other personnel may have been in close contact and possibly exposed will be conducted. Depending on the results of that investigation, additional precautionary measures may be taken.

The safety, health and well-being of all NNSY personnel, including those at NPTU Ballston Spa, is our top priority.  NNSY leadership at NPTU Ballston Spa have been actively working to prevent any potential spread of COVID-19 through social distancing and cancellation of meetings and events.  All personnel have been strongly encouraged to follow CDC preventative recommendations to ensure a healthy working environment.

The Navy is committed to taking every measure possible to protect the health of our force. We remain in close coordination with state and federal authorities, and public health authorities to ensure the well-being of our personnel and local population.
