WASHINGTON - Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Energy, Installations & Environment (EI&E) Charles Williams visited the United States Central Command (USCENTCOM) and Navy Region Europe, Africa, Central (EURAFCENT) areas of responsibility Dec. 1-4, to evaluate installations on the frontlines defending the interests of the United States and its Allies and partners abroad.
Williams started his visit Dec. 1 with a tour of the Mina Salman Pier and Waterfront Security Barrier at Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bahrain that protect the important mission of the United States and its allies in Bahrain. Williams assessed the quality of NSA Bahrain’s barracks and the Department of Defense Education Activity’s Bahrain School to ensure Sailors and their families receive quality housing and educational services.
“I was impressed by NSA Bahrain’s efficient operations and exceptional services that undoubtedly serve to safeguard Sailors, their families, and Americans back at home,” said Williams. “I look forward to supporting the continued development of this installation for the sake of national security.”
Williams traveled to Oman Dec. 3, where he discussed the defense relationship between the United States and Oman with the Sultanate of Oman’s Ministry of Defense Secretary General Mohamaed Al-Rasby and Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman Rear Adm. Abdullah bin Khamis Al Raisi. Williams also had the opportunity to assess the Special Economic Zone Authority, Airport, Port, and Dry Dock in Duqm, Oman.
“I value our key relationship with Oman, and am reassured of the Department of the Navy’s strategic role in this region as we go into the future,” said Williams.
On Dec. 4, Williams finished his visit at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, where he met with installation leadership to discuss the base’s mission and also toured various public works projects and pierside operations to develop a framework to make recommendations on how the installation can best execute its mission. Williams recognized contributions toward Coronavirus mitigations and presented awards to Sailors and civilians for their safety efforts involving mitigation and other safety prevention measures.
