This is the third event in what is scheduled to be a bimonthly series. The inaugural town hall occurred in March, followed by the second town hall in May. The previous town hall sessions are archived on the Flank Speed Hub.
Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Director of Enterprise Networks and Cybersecurity Rear Adm. Tracy Hines will be kicking off this event. “This initiative sets the foundation for how we will operate in the future to improve efficiency and effectiveness while also enabling functions critical to our success in the age of strategic competition,” said Hines. “This transition to Flank Speed may look simple on paper, but it has been challenging in practice to implement. I look forward to talking about it at the Town Hall, because a transformation of this magnitude requires a lot of coordination. While we refine and improve the processes to make this migration a reality, we are excited about how the enterprise is learning and adapting every day to utilize this tool to its fullest extent.”
This month’s session will focus on Citizen Development, a practice where those without professional software development expertise are enabled to partake in the software development processes. Military Assistant to the Department of the Navy (DON) Chief information Officer (CIO), Capt. Sean O’Lone, will be discussing this topic during the upcoming event. "I am very excited by the capabilities provided by Flank Speed. It is more than just email in the cloud email and Teams. The capabilities provided by the Power Platform make it much easier for every Sailor or Marine to create their own applications or automations to make their lives easier and their organizations better,” stated O’Lone. “I have already seen multiple examples of applications being built by Sailors and Civilians that streamline functions and eliminate tedious, error-prone work. I am looking forward to talking about what is possible at the next Town Hall."
During the town hall, Microsoft Corporation’s Senior Cloud Solution Architect Engineer, Michael Williams will provide a more in-depth overview of Microsoft Power Platform, the tool that empowers the concept of citizen development.
The session will end with a question-and-answer period, where questions asked in the chat will be addressed in real time as time and expertise allows. Questions not addressed during the live session will be answered offline and posted to the Flank Speed Hub.
Invitations to the Town Hall are available on the Flank Speed Hub and via the Navy Champions’ Network. Those who have not transitioned to Flank Speed may still join via a web browser.
