For the first time since 2014, the Navy will bring more than 90 Sailors to Omaha from June 15-21 to engage in a week-long series of performances, educational events and service projects in celebration of the Navy and Nation’s 250th anniversary.
Sailors from the namesake ships USS Omaha (LCS 12) and USS Nebraska (SSBN 739) will participate in engagements throughout the Navy Week. There will also be public performances by the Navy Band Northwest Brass Band and Woodwind Quintet.
“As the Nation celebrates Freedom 250 throughout 2026, our Navy Week outreach program is embarking on a monumental ‘Road Trip to 250.’ These Navy Weeks forge powerful connections with communities across America, demonstrating our fierce, enduring commitment to defending the very independence this nation was built upon,” said Cmdr. Julie Holland, Navy Office of Community Outreach director.
Leading the engagements for Omaha Navy Week is Rear Adm. Robert Nowakowski, Deputy Commander, Naval Education and Training Command - Force Development. Following a highly successful executive engagement visit to Omaha and Lincoln in 2025, Rear Adm. Nowakowski returns to champion this year’s events. He is joined by Rear Adm. Kimberly Sandberg Reserve Deputy Director, Naval Medical Forces Atlantic. A proud alumna of Creighton University, Rear Adm. Sandberg brings a deep local connection to the forefront as she leads a dedicated cohort from the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery throughout the week.
Other participating Navy units will include hometown Sailors from Nebraska, USS Constitution, Naval History and Heritage Command and Navy Meteorology and Oceanography Command.
Navy Weeks bring the Navy to regions without a major naval presence, fostering connections and showcasing how the Navy’s mission ensures the security, prosperity and freedom of our nation. The Navy Week program has visited over 100 U.S. cities since the program’s inception in 2005.
