The Music City is scheduled to host members of the U.S. Navy during Nashville Navy Week, June 3-9, coinciding with the Great Tennessee Air Show.

Rear Adm. Brian S. Pecha, Reserve Fleet Surgeon, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, will share the Navy’s message with local civic organizations, businesses and community groups as the senior Navy executive during the week.

"During a Navy Week, approximately 75 outreach events are coordinated with corporate, civic, government, education, media, veterans, community service and diversity organizations in the city," said Lt. Jacqui Maxwell, planner for Nashville Navy Week. "Nashville last hosted a Navy Week in 2012 and we’re looking forward to coming back to Music City!"

Navy Weeks, coordinated by the Navy Office of Community Outreach, are designed to give Americans an opportunity to learn about the Navy, its people and its importance to national security and prosperity. Since 2005, the Navy Week program has served as the Navy’s flagship outreach effort into areas of the country without a significant naval presence, providing the public a firsthand look at the Navy the nation needs.

Navy Weeks play a vital role in connecting the American public with a large array of Sailors, assets and equipment. The weeklong event strives to engage with local communities who do not have frequent visibility of the Navy.

Sailors participating come from a wide range of commands, demonstrating the Navy’s versatility and vitality in protecting and defending America around the world, around the clock.

Among those participating will be the Sailors from the oldest American warship, USS Constitution, U.S. Fleet Forces Brass Band, the Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine USS Tennessee, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group Two, Naval Operations Support Command Nashville, and U.S. Fleet Forces Environmental. 

“The U.S. Fleet Forces Band, as well as several other assets from the Navy, uses this opportunity to get out into the community and show our appreciation of the support sailors receive daily from the American people,” said Musician 1st Class Christopher Jerome. “We are an eight-piece, New Orleans-style brass band and perform a variety of genres, from traditional Dixieland and Mardi Gras to Rock, R&B, and Jazz. Within the span of an hour, concert-goers will hear Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Duke Ellington, Youngblood, Snarky Puppy and many others. All of our performances are free and open to the public, and we are performing all around Nashville and its surrounding area during Navy Week. So, there’s lots of opportunities for folks to come out and catch some of the action.”

The week’s events will include school presentations, public band performances, community service projects and expeditionary demonstrations.
