The following reports the results of Special and General Courts-Martial tried and completed within the United States Navy in July 2017. The cases are listed by the Navy Region in which they were tried.

Naval District Washington

General Court-Martial

Special Courts-Martial

At a Special Court-Martial in Washington, D.C., a Petty Officer 1st Class was tried for wrongful use of a controlled substance. On July 12, 2017, the panel of members returned a verdict of not guilty.

Navy Region Mid-Atlantic

General Court-Martial

* At a General Court-Martial in Groton, Connecticut, Seaman Recruit Andrew J. Valladares pled guilty pursuant to a pretrial agreement to one specification of making a false official statement, four specifications of wrongful use of a controlled substance, and one specification of breaking restriction. On July 7, 2017, the military judge sentenced him to be discharged with a Bad Conduct Discharge and confinement for 161 days. The pretrial agreement had no effect on the sentence.

* At a General Court-Martial in Washington, D.C., a Lt. Cmdr. was tried for one specification of dereliction of duty. On July 20, 2017, the panel of members returned a verdict of not guilty.

* At a General Court-Martial in Norfolk, Virginia, a Seaman was tried for one specification of abusive sexual contact and one specification of sexual assault. On July 20, 2017, the panel of members returned a verdict of not guilty.

* At a General Court-Martial in Norfolk, Virginia, Petty Officer 2nd Class Erik M. Vasquez was tried for two specifications of sexual assault. On July 27, 2017, the panel of members returned a verdict of guilty and sentenced him to be discharged with a Dishonorable Discharge and confinement for four years.

Special Court-Martial

* At a Special Court-Martial in Norfolk, Virginia, Marine Gunnery Sgt. Cameron Z. Tygett pled guilty pursuant to a pretrial agreement to five specifications of sexual harassment, three specifications of fraternization, and one specification of assault consummated by a battery. On July 20, 2017, the military judge sentenced him to be discharged with a Bad Conduct Discharge, reduction in rank to paygrade of Pvt., and confinement for five months. Pursuant to the pretrial agreement, the Bad Conduct Discharge is to be suspended pending Gunnery Sgt. Tygett's administrative separation. The suspended punishment may be served if the service member violates the terms of the pretrial agreement.

Navy Region Southeast

General Courts-Martial

* At a General Court-Martial in Pensacola, Florida, Petty Officer 1st Class Kawaski K. Lewis pled guilty pursuant to a pretrial agreement to four specifications of larceny. On July 7, 2017, the military judge sentenced him to be discharged with a Dishonorable Discharge, a fine of $12,000, and confinement for 30 months. If the fine is not paid, the service member must serve an additional 12 months confinement. The pretrial agreement had no effect on his sentence.

* At a General Court-Martial in Mayport, Florida, a Petty Officer 2nd Class was tried for rape and sexual assault. On July 27, 2017, the panel of members returned a verdict of not guilty.

Special Courts-Martial

* At a Special Court-Martial in Mayport, Florida, Petty Officer 1st Class Geoffrey A. Polizoti was tried for wrongful use of a controlled substance. On July 11, 2017, the panel of members returned a verdict of guilty and sentenced him to reduction in rank to paygrade of Seaman and restriction to the limits of the Naval Hospital Jacksonville for 30 days.

General Court-Martial

Special Court-Martial

* At a Special Court-Martial in Bremerton, Washington, Seaman Garrett J. Brethauer pled guilty pursuant to a pretrial agreement to five specifications of wrongful use, introduction and distribution of a controlled substance. On July 17, 2017, the military judge sentenced him to be discharged with a Bad Conduct Discharge, reduction in rank to paygrade of Seaman Recruit, and confinement for five months. The pretrial agreement had no effect on his sentence.

* At a Special Court-Martial in Bremerton, Washington, Seaman Recruit Ramano T. A. Ricks was tried for desertion, two specifications of resisting and fleeing apprehension, and three specifications of possession and introduction of a controlled substance. On July 19, 2017, the military judge returned a verdict of guilty and sentenced him to be discharged with a Bad Conduct Discharge and confinement for five months.

* At a Special Court-Martial in Bremerton, Washington, Seaman Apprentice Brandon B. Grayson pled guilty pursuant to a pretrial agreement to two specifications of wrongful use of a controlled substance. On July 24, 2017, the military judge sentenced him to confinement for 60 days. Pursuant to the pretrial agreement, all confinement greater than time served (26 days) is to be suspended pending Seaman Apprentice Grayson's administrative separation.

* At a Special Court-Martial in Everett, Washington, a Petty Officer 3rd Class was tried for two specifications of sexual harassment and abusive sexual contact. On July 26, 2017, the panel of members returned a verdict of not guilty.

Navy Region Southwest

General Court-Martial

* At a General Court-Martial in San Diego, California, a Petty Officer 2nd Class was tried for one specification of sexual assault. On July 20, 2017, the panel of members returned a verdict of not guilty.

Special Court-Martial

* At a Special Court-Martial in San Diego, California, Lt. Cmdr. Lance A. Lopez pled guilty pursuant to a pretrial agreement to one specification of unauthorized absence, one specification of failure to provide a urinalysis sample, and one specification of wrongful use of controlled substance. On July 5, 2017, the military judge sentenced him to a letter of reprimand, and to forfeit $4,061.00 per month for one month. The pretrial agreement had no effect on his sentence, and the accused will be administratively separated from the Navy.

* At a Special Court-Martial in San Diego, California, a Seaman was tried for one specification of abusive sexual contact and one specification of assault consummated by battery. On July 13, 2017, the panel of members returned a verdict of not guilty.

* At a Special Court-Martial in Oceanside, California, Seaman Recruit Casey J. Wilsoncroft pled guilty pursuant to a pretrial agreement to one specification of wrongful possession of drug paraphernalia, and one specification of the wrongful use of a controlled substance. On July 14, 2017, the military judge sentenced him to be discharged with a Bad Conduct Discharge, and confinement for 105 days. Pursuant to the pretrial agreement all confinement in excess of 90 days is to be suspended. The suspended confinement may be served if the service member violates the terms of the pretrial agreement.

* At a Special Court-Martial in San Diego, California, Seaman Cameron D. Goins pled guilty pursuant to a pretrial agreement to one specification of wrongful possession of a handgun and ammunition, one specification of assault consummated by battery, and one specification of fleeing the scene of an accident. On July 24, 2017, the military judge sentenced him to forfeit $1,257.00 per month for two months and confinement for 120 days. Pursuant to the pretrial agreement all confinement in excess of 90 days is to be suspended pending Seaman Goins' administrative separation. The suspended confinement may be served if the service member violates the terms of the pretrial agreement.

Navy Region Hawaii

General Court-Martial

* At a General Court-Martial in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Lt. j.g. Tyshaun Spencer pled guilty pursuant to a pretrial agreement to failure to go to his appointed place of duty, making a false official statement, drunken operation of a vehicle, wrongful use of a controlled substance, and breaking restriction. On July 25, 2017, the military judge sentenced him to confinement for 172 days. Pursuant to the pretrial agreement, all confinement greater than time served (55 days) was suspended pending Lt. j.g. Spencer's administrative separation. The suspended confinement may be served if the service member violates the terms of the pretrial agreement.

Special Court-Martial

* At a Special Court-Martial in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Petty Officer 2st Class Jay Castonguay pled guilty to one specification of failure to report his arrest, and four specifications of the wrongful use of a controlled substance. On July 21, 2017, the military judge sentenced him to reduction in rank to paygrade of Seaman and confinement for 120 days. Pursuant to the pretrial agreement all confinement in excess of 60 days and any adjudged reduction is to be suspended pending Petty Officer 2st Class Castonguay's administrative separation. The suspended punishment may be served if the service member violates the terms of the pretrial agreement.
