At approximately 7:30 a.m. Dec. 11, employees of the Corpus Christi Army Depot on board Naval Air Station Corpus Christi reported that a fellow employee made verbal threats.

In the interest of everyone's safety, the commanding officer of the air station immediately placed the base on lockdown and closed the gates to all traffic.

Installation security forces responded promptly and effectively apprehended the suspect for questioning without injury. Security forces swept and cleared the scene, and once it was deemed safe, the lockdown was lifted and the gates were reopened to normal traffic.

“I am relieved to report no one was injured,” said NAS Corpus Christi Commanding Officer Capt. Chris Jason. “The safety of our employees and families, and of our surrounding community, is my top priority. We are keenly aware of the recent incidents at other naval installations and we train diligently to respond to such situations.

"I am very proud of the prompt response from our Navy and Army Security Forces, and I am grateful for the outstanding support provided by local and federal law enforcement.”

Federal authorities are investigating the incident. It is an isolated incident – not connected to recent events at other naval installations.
