Sailors from Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) Minneapolis/St. Paul (LCS 21) received a proclamation from Duluth Mayor Emily Larson July 15 declaring it Navy Week in Duluth from July 15-21.

Duluth Navy Week is the ninth of 14 Navy Weeks scheduled across the country this year, and it is an opportunity for the Navy to tell area residents about their Navy and why it is important to national security and prosperity.

“We are happy to be the hosts to members of the Navy,” said Larson. “Navy week brings a lot of excitement to our city. It gives an opportunity for the locals to interact with and show the support that we have to all of the armed services.”

Duluth Navy Week will focus a variety of outreach assets, equipment and personnel throughout the city during the event, conducting approximately 70 engagements with key influencers and organizations representing all sectors of the city.

This Navy Week features Minnesota native Deputy Undersecretary of the Navy Jodi Greene, Sailors from: PCU USS Minneapolis/St. Paul, USS Constitution, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group 1, Navy Band Great Lakes and Southwest, Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 131, and Navy History and Heritage Command historians and displays.

Since 2005, the Navy Week program has served as the Navy's principal outreach effort in the areas of the country without a significant naval presence. More than 220 Navy Weeks have been held in 76 different U.S. cities.
