Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., visited the Navy's forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) March 27. As part of a congressional delegation, Warren conducted a base tour of Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan, visited the Reagan to discuss topics with leadership and Sailors, enjoy a lunch with crewmembers and tour the ship. Her visit focused on Japan-US alliance, maritime threats in the area and Sailors stationed here. Warren toured the flight deck, hangar bay, machinery repair shop and had lunch in the officer's mess with Sailors from different departments. "I had a very meaningful visit to see the Reagan and meet its crew, who proudly represent the United States while working with our ally, Japan," said Warren. "As a member of the Senate Armed Services personnel subcommittee, I was particularly glad to have lunch in the mess with Sailors to discuss how we in Congress can better assist our service members and their families." Ens. Helena Cheslack, one of the attendees at the lunch, explained how she felt to have the senator visit the Reagan. "It was inspiring to meet Senator Warren, who is one of my role models and a source of hope as a woman in Congress fighting to make our lives better," said Cheslack. "I hope to embody her eloquence and passion as a leader." Warren was elected to the Senate in 2012. She serves on the Committee on Armed Services, the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions and Special Committee on Aging. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interests of its allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
