Sailors assigned to USS Constitution began participating in Navy Week Birmingham, April 9.

Navy Week Birmingham is scheduled for April 9-15.

Constitution Sailors began their participation with a tour of Vulcan Park & Museum.

They will give presentations at Hoover High School, Boys and Girls Club Center for a New Generation, Calera High School, and the Boys and Girls Club Balton Club House. Additionally, Constitution Sailors will perform a color guard detail a Birmingham Barons baseball game. They are also scheduled to participate in a Navy STEM Day at McWane Science Center.

"Navy Weeks are some of the best opportunities that our Sailors get to experience while stationed aboard USS Constitution," said Cmdr. John A. Benda, Constitution's Executive Officer. "It gives them an opportunity to take what they've learned at Constitution and share that history and enthusiasm with the rest of the country."

Lastly, Constitution Sailors will visit and give presentations to patients at Children's of Alabama Children's Hospital.

This is the third Navy Week that Constitution Sailors have participated in this year. They participated in similar activities in San Antonio and Waco.

The primary purpose of the Navy Week program is to increase Navy awareness by presenting the Navy to Americans who live in cities that normally do not have a significant naval presence. Waco Navy Week will showcase the mission, capabilities and achievements of the U.S. Navy, and provide residents the opportunity to meet Sailors firsthand.

Constitution, America's Ship of State, actively defended sea lanes against global threats from 1797-1855.
