Staff and Students assigned to Naval Technical Training Center (NTTC) Lackland took time to participate in a 1.5 mile in support of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM), April 13.

"The run was a really fun way to finish out our first week of training at Master-at-Arms School," said Seaman Apprentice Dnzel Hughes, a student at NTTC Lackland. "The camaraderie and teamwork built while executing this event really supported sexual assault awareness and prevention month."

Chief Master-at-Arms Kaitlin Hill, who serves as the regional collateral duty sexual assault response coordinator, planned the event to promote this year's SAAPM theme, which is "Protecting Our People Protects Our Mission."

"SAAPM is observed in April and it gives us an opportunity to keep Sailors interested in the cause," said Hill. "Events like this provide us with the chance to highlight programs and initiatives that educate, support, and inspire shipmates to take an active role to help eliminate sexual assault."

These activities provide an opportunity not only to raise awareness and promote prevention, but also to challenge existing social norms and beliefs. Sexual assault can happen to anyone; therefore, all individuals have a role to play in its prevention.
