Utah's capital is scheduled to host members of the U.S. Navy during Salt Lake City Navy Week, September 11-17, coinciding with the Utah State Fair.

The week will kick off at the Utah State Fair on Monday where USS Constitution and Explosive Ordnance Group One Sailors will interact with visitors, while Navy Band Northwest performs for attendees.

Rear Adm. Moises DelToro, III, Deputy Commander for Undersea Warfare, Naval Sea Systems Command and Commander of Naval Undersea Warfare Center, will be the senior flag officer presiding over the Navy Week.

"It's a pleasure to return to Salt Lake City to help tell the Navy's story," said DelToro, an alumni of the University of Utah. "Salt Lake City Navy Week gives us a tremendous opportunity to share what we do with a community that has always supported the military and veterans. It also allows for our Sailors to meet the people that make this city and region so great. We're excited to be here, excited to share our mission and excited to give the people of Salt Lake City a first-hand look at the greatest Navy in the world."

During Salt Lake City Navy Week, DelToro will meet with corporate, civic, education and government leaders in order to increase awareness of the Navy, its mission, and the importance of the Navy to the people of Salt Lake City.

Historically, Navy Week events draw thousands of people from the community to participate in events and create a dialogue with Sailors. The events are designed to raise awareness about the Navy in areas which do not have a large naval presence.

"Salt Lake City has been open armed for the entirety of the planning process," said Lt. J.G. Mack Jamieson, lead planner for Salt Lake City Navy Week. "All of our units are excited to visit and interact with the people of Salt Lake City. It's going to be a great week and a great opportunity to share the Navy mission."

Citizens of Salt Lake City will have several opportunities to interact with Sailors during the week including live band performances at the Utah State Fair and Salt Lake City Public Library.

Additionally, explosive ordnance disposal technicians and divers from EOD Group One will provide engaging, dynamic, hands-on displays to the community during the week, including presentations at the Salt Lake Center for Science and Education, various schools and Boys and Girls Clubs throughout the community.

To wrap up the week the U.S. Navy Parachute Team, the Leap Frogs, will jump into the Brigham Young University vs. Wisconsin football game as well as the Utah Utes vs. San Jose State football game on Saturday, September 16.

Salt Lake City Navy Week is one of only 15 Navy Weeks in 2017 that focus a variety of assets, equipment and personnel on a single city for a weeklong series of engagements designed to bring America's Navy closer to the people it protects.
