PHIBRON 4 Holds Change of Command Aboard Iwo Jima

Killman served as the deputy commodore for PHIBRON 4 prior to taking command. His previous sea assignments include serving as commanding officer of the guided-missile frigate USS Elrod (FFG 55) and executive officer of the guided-missile destroyer USS Ramage (DDG 61).

Weatherly's next assignment is as chief of staff for Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) 2, which operates out of Joint Expeditionary Base (JEB) Little Creek-Fort Story in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Units of PHIBRON 4 were recently engaged in assisting relief efforts following the landfall of Hurricane Irma in Florida and the Caribbean. The dock landing ship USS Oak Hill (LSD 51) and embarked units provided assistance in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, while Iwo Jima, the transport dock ship USS New York (LPD 21) and their embarked units provided initial support to Key West, Florida, under the guidance of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and state officials.

PHIBRON 4 is currently composed of Iwo Jima and New York, which are homeported at Naval Station Mayport, Florida; Oak Hill, which operates from JEB Little Creek-Fort Story and Fleet Surgical Team (FST) 8, which is stationed at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia. Also assigned to PHIBRON 4 and operating out of JEB Little Creek-Fort Story are Tactical Air Squadron (TACRON) 22, Assault Craft Unit (ACU) 2, ACU 4 and Beach Master Unit (BMU) 2.
