Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Bahrain conducted a Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Green Belt training workshop Sept. 12-13 to improve workflow processes for entry-level employees. The LSS program is operated by four different levels of certification. NAVSUP Headquarters Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) trainer Bryan Pilgrim trained Green Belt participants on the foundations of the LSS curriculum. "NAVSUP FLC Bahrain is a professional team that is excited about improving their process and looking for innovative ways to better serve their numerous customers," said Pilgrim. During the training, participants focused on the concept of "lean" thinking to eliminate waste and extra processing. The "six sigma" portion focused on the systematic approach to collecting and analyzing data to improve efficiencies. Workshop participants engaged in classroom lectures and presentations explaining LSS methods and participated in group activities designed to strengthen their understanding of process improvement. Topics covered included process mapping, charter development, brainstorming, and change management, as well as other components. Each topic of the workshop is instrumental to CPI for NAVSUP FLC Bahrain. NAVSUP FLC Bahrain continues to foster education for the command's Green Belts. After completing their Green Belt projects, workshop participant will have the opportunity to attend Black Belt training. Black Belt-certified NAVSUP FLC Bahrain members will be assigned more complex projects directly resulting in enhanced NAVSUP core functions. NAVSUP FLC Bahrain is one of eight FLCs under Commander, NAVSUP. NAVSUP's mission is to provide supplies, services, and quality-of-life support to the Navy and joint warfighter. With headquarters in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and employing a diverse, worldwide workforce of more than 22,500 military and civilian personnel, NAVSUP oversees logistics programs in the areas of supply operations, conventional ordnance, contracting, resale, fuel, transportation and security assistance.
