A Sailor found deceased on board USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) Nov. 25, has been identified as Engineman Fireman Recruit Akiree Pointer.

John C. Stennis and the Navy convey their condolences to the Sailor's family and friends in their time of loss.

Pointer's previous commands include the Naval Recruit Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal.

An investigation into the cause of death is underway.

John C. Stennis is currently in port preparing for future operations and its next scheduled deployment.
