Pharmacy Trial Program Coming to NHCCP in January

14 December 2017
In another initiative to improve patient satisfaction, the Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point (NHCCP) Pharmacy is extending the Marine Corps Exchange (MCX) Refill Pharmacy operating hours to include Saturdays.
Beginning Jan. 6, 2018, the refill pharmacy will open every Saturday (non-holiday) from 10: 30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The trial program is scheduled to run for 90 days. Continuation of the program will depend on how well the new hours are utilized.

Currently, the MCX Refill Pharmacy hours are Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Lieutenant Peter Jeanlouis, NHCCP's Pharmacy department head, studied the Refill Pharmacy's availability for patients and felt the Refill Pharmacy's current hours of operation were restrictive to many patients.

From Oct. 30 to Nov. 3, Pharmacy patrons were given the opportunity to weigh in on the initiative by completing Interactive Customer Evaluation (ICE) questionnaires. Patients were asked, "Would you utilize the MCX Refill Pharmacy if it was open on Saturday for half-day for refill pick up?" The results showed an overwhelming number of patients supported the initiative.

In FY 17, the Refill Pharmacy dispensed more than 61,000 refills, an average of 245 every day.

"We are listening to our patients," said Jeanlouis. "We are looking at what they need, finding ways to serve them and continuously improving our efforts. We hope the extended Saturday hours will become a resource for our patients well past the 90-day trial period."

Named after Medal of Honor recipient, Pharmacist's Mate 2nd Class William D. Halyburton, the Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point provides high-quality patient care to more than 20,000 active-duty members and Department of Defense beneficiaries. In addition to outpatient surgical services, NHCCP offers Medical Home Port (including family care and pediatrics), dermatology, internal medicine, orthopedics, physical therapy, mental
