The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64) departed Kiel, Germany, May 14, 2017, after a scheduled port visit to enhance U.S.-Germany relations as the two nations work together for a stable, secure and prosperous Europe.

The ship's presence in the Baltic Sea is a demonstration of the continued commitment to the collective security of NATO under Operation Atlantic Resolve.

* Cmdr. Peter Halvorsen, commanding officer, USS Carney (DDG 64) met with German Navy Rear Adm. Jan Kaack, commander, Flotilla 1, during an office call in Kiel.

* Strengthening alliances during the port visit to Kiel demonstrates the shared commitment both nations have to promoting safety and stability within the region, while seeking to enhance interoperability.
