Naval Air Station Oceana Fuel Spill Update #6

Today, the Navy's Mid-Atlantic Region Commander, Rear Adm. Jack Scorby provided an update on clean-up efforts and status of the Naval Air Station Oceana Fuel Spill.
Today, the Navy's Mid-Atlantic Region Commander, Rear Adm. Jack Scorby provided an update on clean-up efforts and status of the Naval Air Station Oceana Fuel Spill. Scorby stated that:

- The health and safety of residents and workers continues to be our top priority.
- Emergency response will continue until we are able to transition to the remediation phase which will occur when there is little to no recoverable product.
- The Unified Command (UC) continues to offer residents in the affected neighborhoods the option to temporarily relocate, on a voluntary basis, while the clean-up efforts continue.
- We urge the public to contact us with any continued reports, updates or concerns by calling (757) 433-2162 or email: oceanaComments@navy.mil.
- Air quality continues to be monitored. Since Tuesday afternoon the air quality readings in the affected neighborhoods have tested near zero. Air and water quality testing will continue through the emergency response phase.
- We are working around the clock and are optimistic transition to the remediation phase will occur next week. We are committed to the entire clean-up process.
- We have and want to maintain our good relationship with our neighbors and we are doing everything we possibly can to keep the community informed. The community will be updated regularly as this work progresses. A Frequently Asked Questions has been created to address citizens' concerns and can be found on Oceana's website. We urge the public to contact us with any continued reports, updates or concerns.
