The thousands of visitors at Laramie County Community College in south Cheyenne had been waiting in the overcast and rainy weather to see the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team flying F-16 Fighting Falcon jets overhead.

However, when the weather persisted, the Thunderbirds team was forced to call off the demonstration before it began, inviting the crowd to to turn its attention to the only event available - an enlistment ceremony for new recruits.

Master at Arms Seaman Ambryn Andrews found herself standing in formation in the rain on a rural highway in front of the college, one of approximately 40 enlistees from all branches of service, both active and reserve. Six of the group had enlisted in the Navy. The Denver native and current Cheyenne resident raised her right hand to take the oath of enlistment to enter the Navy Reserve after a break in service following her two years on active duty between 2008-2010, much of it spent in Naples, Italy.

"I was really honored to be asked to be a part of the swear-in conducted by the Thunderbirds," Andrews said. "I am blessed to be able to serve my country."

Family and fellow Navy Reservists taking part in the annual Cheyenne Frontier Days joined her for the milestone event.

Her sister-in-law, Lindsey Andrews, was impressed by the ceremony. Her brother-in-law, Elliott Andrews, enjoyed it as well, commenting, "it was cool to see the men and women commit their life to their country."

In her second Navy enlistment, Andrews will be serving with the Naval Security Force reserve component, while completing routine administrative requirements throughout the year at Navy Operational Support Center Cheyenne in Wyoming.
