USS Truxtun Departs on Deployment

Guided-missile destroyer USS Truxtun (DDG 103) departed Naval Station Norfolk for a scheduled deployment to conduct operations in the U.S. Navy's 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility, Jan. 21.

Truxtun will be departing as part of the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWBCSG) deployment in support of maritime operations and theater security cooperation efforts.

After completing a successful training and certification period, Truxtun demonstrated overall personnel and equipment readiness required for deployment.

"It is a privilege to command Truxtun," said Cmdr. Troy Denison, Truxtun's commanding officer. "The men and women who make up the crew of the Truxtun are among the nation's finest, and I'm confident we will do great things on deployment as we execute our mission."

The GHWBCSG is comprised of the staff of CSG-2; aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77); the nine squadrons and staff of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 8; Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 22 staff and USS Laboon (DDG 58) and Truxtun; and Mayport-based guided-missile cruisers USS Philippine Sea (CG 58) and USS Hue City (CG 66).
