The Commanding Officer of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group (EODGRU) 1, based in Coronado, requests privacy for the family of Chief Petty Officer Jason Finan, who died on Oct. 20 after sustaining injuries while deployed in Iraq. "Chief Finan was extremely proud of his service to his country, he was deeply respected by his peers and teammates," said Capt. Dean Muriano, Commander, EODGRU-1. "His family and brothers in arms are mourning and grieving the loss of this respected and talented Sailor." Muriano requested privacy be granted to Finan's family members at this time. "He gave his life for his teammates and was committed and loyal to the country he loved; in return I ask that to best honor his memory and service, we give both his family and his fellow Sailors the time they need to heal so they can mourn his loss," said Muriano. Finan was serving in an advisory capacity to the coalition force supporting Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq. EODGRU-1 mans, trains, equips, and sustains seven subordinate commands and 37 EOD platoons and seven MDS companies in support of Northern, Pacific, Africa, Southern, and Central commands.
