The supply department aboard guided-missile destroyer USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93) earned the 2016 Blue "E" Award for Supply Excellence, March 20.

The Blue "E" is awarded annually to supply departments that demonstrate excellent quality and efficiency, and is judged by a comprehensive multiple-day supply management inspection.

"This award came from an overall supply team effort," said Lt. Jason Canonigo, Chung-Hoon's supply officer.
Canonigo explained, in order to earn the Blue "E," every supply division on the ship must receive an 85 percent or above during the Supply Management Certification. Chung-Hoon's overall score was 90.75 percent.

The crew will now be able to paint a second consecutive Blue "E" on the ship's mast as they have earned the award two years in a row.

"Over the past 19 months, our supply department has changed dramatically," said Canonigo. "2015 was the first time the ship ever received the Blue 'E,' and earning it this year is a testament to the continuance of hard work our Sailors are putting in each and every day."

Cmdr. Tom Ogden, Chung-Hoon's commanding officer, echoed his supply officer's comments and thanked the department for their hard work.

"The supply department puts in a consistent effort each day, the true sign of an outstanding team," said Ogden. "Earning the Blue 'E' shows that the combat logisticians of Chung-Hoon understand that their role is to provide for the warfighter and they do it perfectly!"

Providing a ready force supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific, Chung-Hoon is operating as part of the John C. Stennis Strike Group and Great Green Fleet on a regularly scheduled 7th Fleet deployment.
