Chief of Navy Chaplains, Rear Adm. Margaret Grun Kibben, visited the Golden Swordsmen of Patrol Squadron April 13.

During her visit, Kibben met with several members from VP-47 and toured a P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft while learning the various capabilities it has to offer.

"I was kind of taken aback, it's not every day you're walking around with an admiral," said Naval Aircrewman (Acoustic) 2nd class Tyler Willsey. "She really enjoyed what she saw and talking to us about our jobs on a P-3."

For the crew to interact and communicate about their jobs with visitors is a great opportunity to showcase the abilities the P-3 communities have to offer. It's even more valuable when a rear admiral visits.

"There is always a great sense of pride when we have the opportunity to show and tell others outside our community our capabilities," Lt. Cmdr. Jeremy Lyon, the operational officer for VP-47. "These occasions give the aircrew an opportunity to discuss what they use on our aircraft to be successful on missions. Having Rear Adm. Kibben onboard makes these occasions even more exciting."

Kibben became the 24th Chief of Navy Chaplains on August 1, 2014. Navy Chaplains serve on ships and at foreign and domestic bases throughout various Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard commands. Responsibilities of Navy chaplains include conducting worship services in a variety of settings, overseeing religious education programs, such as Sunday school and youth groups and providing spiritual guidance and care to hospitalized personnel and/or their family members.

VP-47 is currently underway with their fleet response training program, conducting exercises and maintenance to maximize operational performance and efficiency.
