Naval Aviation Enterprise (NAE) leadership named Amy Cannello winner of the Outstanding Performance Award during a NAE Air Board video teleconference May 23.

Cannello was recognized for her work as investment division lead (N84) for Commander, Fleet Readiness Centers (COMFRC). In her role, she was key to building relationships with Commander, Naval Installations Command (CNIC) and Navy Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) and directly contributed to the success of the NAE mission, according to a letter of appreciation signed by Vice Adm. Mike Shoemaker, Commander, Naval Air Forces.

Cannello's team provided information to CNIC and NAVFAC detailing the importance of obtaining construction funding in fiscal year 2016 for projects supporting V-22 Osprey and E-2D Hawkeye aircraft. The investment lead also developed relationships and courses of action to establish future air vehicle modification and repair facilities in support of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter at Fleet Readiness Center (FRC) East and FRC Western Pacific.

"Your determination and attention to detail were instrumental in the success of these separate, yet combined aviation support projects," Shoemaker wrote. "Your efforts will serve as a force multiplier across the fleet. Your dedication and tenacity coupled with an understanding of naval aviation, Navy facilities and supporting processes are the hallmarks of true and revolutionary leadership."

For Cannello, receiving the award was very affirming, but she said she is most proud of how her team's work has a direct impact supporting the warfighter.

"I'm proud of the fact that we can really support the warfighter in a fiscally constrained environment," Cannello said. "Our hard work and tenacity is paying off, and [we're] overcoming the many challenges and obstacles encountered while giving our men and women what they need to accomplish their mission. We are able to get what some people considered to be impossible done."

Cannello said she is looking forward to continuing to support the fleet through the Vision 2020 strategy, the strategic plan for regaining, readiness, affordability and speed to the fleet.

"With Vision 2020, the naval aviation force of the future will be able to quickly adapt to emergent maintenance requirements, and the Fleet Readiness Centers will be faster, more agile, more geographically independent and cost less," Cannello said. "Vision 2020 and its seven threads -- or lines of effort -- are the result of fact-finding interviews and benchmarking visits to the Fleet Readiness Centers to identify the constraints in the organization that were contributing to the decrease in fleet readiness and effectiveness within the production process. We know the problems and now we are moving to the solutions."

Operating in a collaborative enterprise manner will benefit COMFRC's Vision 2020 efforts moving forward, according to Cannello.

"Through continuous process improvement, COMFRC is positioned to make more effective and efficient investment decisions through an Investment Working Group, whereby one cross-functional leadership group prioritizes and integrates investments across the Fleet Readiness Centers, enabling alignment to the Vision 2020 strategy," she said.

The NAE Air Board, composed of leaders partnering to pursue the best interests of naval aviation, recognizes typically one Sailor, Marine or civilian employee each month for his or her outstanding enterprise-centric contributions to naval aviation. Award winners serve as positive examples of the enterprise approach at work. They routinely illustrate a commitment to the NAE principles of process improvement, a willingness to challenge assumptions, a focus on effectiveness and efficiency and a commitment to the greater good of naval aviation.

Naval aviation leaders have distributed the monthly NAE Outstanding Performance Award since 2008 to promote a culture of cost-wise readiness.
