Three Sailors assigned to Naval Health Clinic Quantico (NHCQ) were promoted through the Meritorious Advancement Program (MAP) July 22.
Three Sailors assigned to Naval Health Clinic Quantico (NHCQ) were promoted through the Meritorious Advancement Program (MAP) July 22.

Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Ellasan Roe, Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class James Rodriguez and Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Rebecca Lotspeich were the three Sailors selected for promotion.

MAP authorizes commanding officers to recognize Sailors with sustained superior performance through immediate advancement.

"Each selectee was chosen from a very competitive group of nominees, and represents the professionalism and knowledge of the Naval Health Clinic's Hospital Corps and their commitment to excellence," said Command Master Chief Bradley B. Weiss.

NHCQ was informed in May the command would receive one MAP quota at the E-3/E-4 level and had the opportunity to compete for additional allocations at the E-5 and E-6 levels.

NHCQ Commanding Officer Capt. Gordon R. Smith, Executive Officer Capt. Theron C. Toole, and Weiss delivered the promotion news to Roe and Lotspeich in front of their shipmates at Naval Branch Medical Clinic John H. Bradley, located at Officer Candidate School July 19.

Rodriguez, assigned to John Henry Balch Clinic, was on leave with his spouse awaiting delivery of their first child, Wyatt, when he received the news. Thus, congratulations were given twice to the Rodriguez family.

Previously only available to Sailors aboard ships, this was the first year Sailors assigned to shore commands were able to receive promotions under the expanded MAP. As a result, meritorious promotions increased by 799 in 2015, for a total of 3,081.

NBMC John H. Bradley and John Henry Balch are two of NHC Quantico's four branch clinics serving a diverse population of approximately 23,000 Marines and their family members and over 130,000 beneficiaries in the Quantico catchment area.
