Staff, patients, and visitors gathered Aug. 17 to celebrate the completion of renovations to Naval Branch Health Clinic (NBHC) Philadelphia, one of Naval Health Clinic Annapolis' six branch and satellite clinics and medical units.

The NBHC Philadelphia staff of 10 military and civilian personnel enhance the nation's defense and security by providing occupational health and industrial hygiene services to more than 7,000 active-duty and civilian personnel at The Navy Yard and Naval Support Activity in Philadelphia.

"The construction and renovation are expected to enhance patient care, improve patient flow, increase access, and advance patient and staff well-being," said Navy Medicine East Commander Rear Adm. Kenneth Iverson. "Expansion and renovation of Naval Branch Health Clinic Philadelphia underscores our commitment to being the preferred choice for patients to desire to receive care, and the preferred choice for staff to desire to work."

The three-year, $6.5 million project included renovations to the exterior and interior 17,005-square foot 1941 clinic, a new main entrance, stairwell, elevator, new fire and safety systems and new medical equipment, while maintaining many historical features to support State Historic Preservation Office requirements.

In addition to the services at The Navy Yard and Naval Support Activity, NBHC Philadelphia delivers occupational medicine consultations through its outlying clinics in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and Lakehurst and Earle, New Jersey.
