Capt. Steven Renly relieved Capt. Roger Meek as commander, Naval Special Warfare Group (NSWG) 11 during a change of command ceremony at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, August 5.

Rear Adm. Kerry Metz, commander, Special Operations Command North (SOCNORTH), was the guest speaker for the ceremony. In his remarks, Metz praised the work performed by NSWG 11 personnel under Meek's command.

"They have supported all the combat operations and have had a multiplying effect for Naval Special Warfare," said Metz. "They are really appreciated by their active duty counterparts."

NSWG 11 represents more than 800 NSW Reservists composed of SEALs, Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen (SWCC), and combat service support personnel who represent nearly 10 percent of the uniformed manpower in the special warfare community. Organizationally, NSWG 11's subordinate commands include the West Coast-based SEAL Team 17 and the East Coast-based SEAL Team 18.

During Meek's tenure, NSWG 11 has taken on a robust role in standing-up and coordinating the NSW Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) mission.

"Under the capability of UAS, NSWG 11 is furthering the tactical advantage of the NSW warfighter on the battlefield," said Meek. "Our reservists are a talented and diverse organization that brings military and civilian skill sets to the fight."

Speaking of his relief, Meek said he had no doubt Renly will take NSWG 11 to the next level.

Renly said he was honored to take command of NSWG 11 from Meek, and to lead NSW Reservists.

"These part-time citizen Soldiers live full-time NSW values," said Renly.

Meek leaves NSWG 11 and will report to be the commanding officer of the Navy Operational Support Center Ventura County.

NSWG 11's mission is to organize, man, train, equip and deploy Reserve SEAL platoons, boat detachments and combat service support teams on special operations missions in support of active-duty NSW commands worldwide.
