Exercise Resolute Response (RR) 16 concluded with a field training exercise (FTX) with U.S. service members and Lebanese armed forces (LAF) on Jounieh Naval Base, Aug. 17.
Exercise Resolute Response (RR) 16 concluded with a field training exercise (FTX) with U.S. Service members and Lebanese armed forces (LAF) on Jounieh Naval Base, Aug. 17.

The exercise served to enhance military-to-military cooperation and strengthen relations as well as capabilities between both countries' armed forces.

"The relationship between the Lebanese and United States has been strengthened through this exercise," stated Cmdr. Ahmad Beshara, deputy commander of Naval Base Jounieh. "We get to know how the U.S. operates, they get to see how we operate and together we can make it better."

During the subject matter exchange, U.S. and Lebanese service members had time to get to know each other on not only a professional level, but also a personal level.

"My favorite part of this exercise was meeting all the EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) [personnel] and divers from the LAF," said Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician 2nd Class Kyle Voors, assigned to Commander, Task Group 56.1. "They all come from different backgrounds and joined for different reasons, but are working together and doing their best with the gear they have to be effective."

Though there were language barriers to overcome by all, both armed forces respectfully listened and communicated the logic behind each other's strategic procedures.

"There is a deep amount of respect between all the participants, both Lebanese and American, and due to that we all grow and benefit from this exercise," said Lt. Andrew Heckel, adaptive force commander for Exercise RR16 assigned to Commander, Task Group 56.1. "I am beyond grateful for the hospitality of the Lebanese armed forces and proud of my units' continued professionalism."

This exercise demonstrated the close cooperation between the U.S. and the Lebanese Republic and the commitment to strengthening maritime capabilities, supporting freedom of navigation throughout the region, and promoting long-term regional security and stability.
