Commander, Destroyer Squadron 2 Relieved

The commander of Destroyer Squadron 2 based at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, was relieved of his duties today by Commander, Carrier Strike Group 12, Rear Adm. Roy Kelley.
The commander of Destroyer Squadron 2 based at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, was relieved of his duties today by Commander, Carrier Strike Group 12, Rear Adm. Roy Kelley. Capt. Anthony L. Simmons was relieved of his duties by Kelley due to loss of confidence in his ability to command as a result of failure to demonstrate the exemplary conduct expected of those in command. Capt. Erik Eslich, Deputy Commander, Destroyer Squadron 2, has assumed command. Simmons assumed command of Destroyer Squadron 2 in March 2016. He has been reassigned to Commander, Naval Surface Force, Atlantic.
