NRC Singapore wins FY15 CNO Environmental Award

08 March 2016
Navy Region Center Singapore (NRCS) was awarded the Fiscal Year 2015 Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Environmental Award in the category of Environmental Quality, Non-Industrial Installation, Feb. 23, 2016.
Navy Region Center Singapore (NRCS) was awarded the Fiscal Year 2015 Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Environmental Award in the category of Environmental Quality, Non-Industrial Installation, Feb. 23, 2016.

According to Lt. Cmdr. Cort Stringham, public works officer, NRCS, this award is the result of the hard work and dedication of all NRCS personnel as a whole and the environmental team in particular in implementing the Environmental Management System (EMS). For NRCS leadership, the award validates the exemplary efforts exhibited by its employees.

"Our environmental team has demonstrated a commitment to excellence," said Capt. Scott Murdock, commanding officer NRCS. "This quality is what we continue to strive for as members of a multi-national military community."

In February of 2015, during the last External Quality Assessment, auditors determined a Navy-wide record low of zero EMS findings. In addition, the continued coordination with the Government of Singapore's National Environmental Agency in support of Shipboard Generated Industrial Waste disposal ensured proper disposal of hazardous waste and helped to increase the capability of ships in the Southeast Asia area of responsibility.

For the Environmental Department of NRCS, this accolade is a result of having implemented a solid EMS platform in which all NRCS employees have made it common practice in their daily work routine, according to NRCS environmental director Chantry Davis. With these continued efforts NRCS is primed for sustained success.

"NRCS Singapore proudly attributes its achievements in 2015 to the collaborative efforts of the entire community and looks forward to continued success in FY2016," Davis said.

The CNO Environmental Awards are an annual recognition program that highlights the accomplishments of nominated ships, installations, and individuals for exceptional achievements in environmental stewardship. Winners of the CNO Environmental Awards will advance to the Secretary of the Navy level of competition to compete with U.S. Marine Corps nominees.
