Senior Executive Service (SES) member, Ms. Lynn Simpson, brought the U.S. Navy to Green Bay, Wisconsin during an outreach visit last week.

As part of a Navy Office of Community Outreach's Executive Engagement Visit program, Simpson, a Wisconsin native, met with several community leaders, civic groups, educational institutions and veteran groups, Sept. 28-30.

One of many highlights of the visit for Simpson was sharing her experiences as a female senior leader in the Navy with more than 70 members of the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) of Green Bay during their Inspirational Luncheon.

"I was honored to speak to this group and to share the experiences in my life, as well as to highlight Secretary Mabus' efforts to enhance diversity and inclusion in the Department of the Navy" said Simpson. "More so, I was inspired with all of their stories and achievements."

Simpson also met with leadership from University of Wisconsin - Green Bay and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College to discuss veteran organizations at the schools, and the support they provide to veterans and military students.

During these meetings, leadership and staff of the schools discussed partnering with the Navy in order provide the best possible support to recently transitioned students through several innovative programs and initiatives.

"I am excited on the amount of interaction and the desire of both schools to do all they can to help veterans and military members succeed, and become a valuable member of the community," said Simpson. "These engagements also served as a forum to promote the Navy's increased attention to education programs as part of its Sailor 2025 initiatives."

Concluding the executive visit, Simpson met with leaders of Marinette Marine Corporation, including the President and Chief Executive Officer, who provided a brief on the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program, a tour of the Marinette ship yard where the LCSs are being constructed and a tour of PCU Milwaukee (LCS 5), which is scheduled to be delivered later this year.

During the tour, Simpson had a chance to meet many of the shipyard workers, and thanked them for their important work in supporting the fleet and our nation.

The trip also included meetings with the Mayor of Green Bay, the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce, Wisconsin Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, the Veterans Center, Rotary and Kiwanis clubs, and Green Bay Packers executives.

Simpson said she could not have been prouder to be in her great home state of Wisconsin and represent the world's finest Navy throughout the visit.

SES is a position classification in the civil service that corresponds to general or flag officer ranks in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Green Bay is only one of 25 cities in 2015 to host and executive engagement visit.
