Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 3's Detail Chinhae hosted two engineer officers from the Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy, on Commander, Fleet Activities, Chinhae (CFAC), Republic of Korea, Sept. 24-25.

The visit promoted partnership and learning between the U.S. and Republic of Korea Naval Construction Forces.

During the visit, Lt. j.g. Clare Ovesen, Detail Chinhae Officer-in-Charge (OIC), and Chief Builder Steven Maldonado, Assistant OIC, explained the operating capabilities of Naval Construction Forces in support of contingency, emergency, or disaster recovery operations, and the self-sustainment ability of the Seabees during missions.

Lt. MinGyu Kim and Ensign Jae Hyung Jung, both ROK Navy Engineer Officers, toured the Detail Chinhae's Civil Engineer Support Equipment (CESE), to learn about the functionality and purpose of each unit of CESE during specific construction operations.

Kim said that he was interested in working with the Seabees in the future and hoped to conduct future training opportunities to help improve construction skills.

In addition to the capabilities of the Seabees, Ovesen and Maldonado led ROK Officers through Detail Chinhae's current project, the construction of a brand new Cold Storage Warehouse on CFAC. The 175 square meter warehouse will store all frozen and refrigerated goods for the dining facility and Morale, Welfare and Recreation facilities. While walking through the project, the ROK Officers learned the required construction activities to complete the warehouse, as well as the Detail's Quality Control and Safety programs.

Ensign Jung thanked the Seabees and said he had a new-found understanding of who the Seabees are and their "Can Do" spirit.

NMCB 3 is home-ported in Port Hueneme, California, and is currently deployed to Okinawa, Japan. Its mission is to support Navy and joint forces throughout the U.S. Pacific Command with construction projects and humanitarian missions in more than 13 different geographical locations.
