Rear Adm. Keith Jones, Commander, Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group (NAVELSG) is participating in a two-day visit to Cincinnati, Dec. 7-8, as part of the Navy's Executive Engagement Visit program.

During Jones' visit to Cincinnati he will meet with the director of the Greater Cincinnati Urban League, speak about leadership to Boy Scouts from the Dan Beard Council, and speak with educators from the University of Cincinnati. Jones will also participate in an education roundtable at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, meet with city government leadership, and talk with local media about the Navy's 21st-century mission.

The EEV program strives to inform, educate and increase America's understanding of the Navy, its people and its importance to national security, global trade and prosperity.

"Educating the American public-such as the people of Cincinnati-about the capability, importance, and the value of today's diverse Navy is an essential responsibility of those who serve," said Jones, who added this type of outreach program paves the way for Navy leadership to build sustained connections with educators, business leaders, government officials and other leaders geared toward science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Additionally, approximately 3,000 Navy personnel are employed in Ohio, which includes active duty and civilian personnel. The contribution the Navy makes by ensuring the safety of waterways for exports is critical to the state and national economy.

"These types of outreach events are intended to educate the American public about their Navy's capabilities and relevance to national security," said Jones, who added it is important for American citizens to know that their Navy is deployed around the world, and serving around the clock.

Citizens of Ohio have a long and distinguished commitment to the military, and the state is home to 253 Medal of Honor recipients that span from the Civil War to the Vietnam War.

Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group is a component of Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC), which delivers expeditionary logistics capabilities with mobilization-ready Navy Reserve forces and active-duty Sailors. They provide a wide range of supply and transportation functions critical for peacekeeping, crisis response, humanitarian assistance, and combat service support missions.
