Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) will be hosting a career fair at the Student Center (Building E) of Tidewater Community College's Portsmouth Campus, located at 120 Campus Drive, on March 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The fair will emphasize shipyard career opportunities in the production skill trades. Representatives from major departments throughout NNSY will be on hand to meet with attendees and answer questions. Representatives for U.S. Fleet Forces Human Resources Office-Norfolk Naval Shipyard will be there to discuss the application process and how to effectively use USAJobs, the employment website for all federal jobs, including those at the shipyard. Prospective applicants should have their resumes on disc or flash drive available to upload to USAJobs.

Federal employment benefits at the shipyard include health and life insurance, matching retirement plan contributions, 10 paid holidays annually, 13 vacation days annually (advancing to 26), and 13 sick days annually.

NNSY needs to hire more than 1,500 new employees by September 30. This will bolster NNSY's number of employees to more than 10,000, its most employees since the early 1990s, to support an influx of fleet repair and modernization in the coming years.

NNSY, a field activity of the Naval Sea Systems Command, is the oldest industrial facility belonging to the U.S. Navy, and specializes in repairing, overhauling and modernizing ships and submarines. It is the fourth largest employer in the Hampton Roads area with 9,500 civilians and an annual payroll of approximately $700 million. NNSY is an equal opportunity employer.
