The officers and crew of the guided missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) held an Easter worship service for Sailors who had duty and family members on Easter Sunday, April 5.

The service was performed on the ship's flight deck and led by Lt. Stephen Brown, Mobile Bay's command chaplain. A dozen Sailors and family members gathered for the service where they sang songs and studied the scriptures overlooking the peaceful San Diego Bay.

Sailors on duty who attended the service said they enjoyed the opportunity to attend Easter service on board the ship.

"I think having a service on board is such a blessing for those of us on duty," said Culinary Specialist 1st Class Omolola Olawale. "It gives us a great sense of belonging."

Other shipmates said they had similar feelings.

"Getting closer to God is important," said Chief Gunner's Mate Morgan Beavers. "It felt good being able to go to an Easter service."

Despite having duty on Easter Sunday, several Sailors said the ship's worship service made the day worthwhile.

"Even though we were away from family it was nice to have the opportunity to celebrate Easter together with our shipmates," said Culinary Specialist 1st Class Abel Duran.

Mobile Bay is assigned to Commander, Carrier Strike Group Three as part of the USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) Carrier Strike Group.
