Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) welcomed the Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RNSF) to in Norfolk, Virginia, April 7-9.

The purpose of the visit was to demonstrate how one of the Navy's Regional Maintenance Centers (RMCs) operates. MARMC Production Manager, Derrick Mitchell, briefed the delegation on MARMC's shop capabilities, as well as its organizational structure, processes and procedures.

"It was a great four days of discussions. We shared with them our business practices in the way intermediate maintenance is executed from work induction to completion here at MARMC," said Mitchell. "As we shared it was so interesting to see that they face some of the same challenges we have in executing ship maintenance on the waterfront."

The delegation toured several production shops, including the pump, outside machine, gun, powder coat, hull, self-contained breathing apparatus, and the hyperbaric chamber along with MARMC's dive boats. At each shop, the delegation was met by a subject matter expert who briefed them on their shop's capabilities.

The last stop on the tour was the dive locker pier, where Diving Officer Chief Warrant Officer Timothy Andros gave the delegation a tour of their brand new dive boat.

"We showed them our new dive boat, which we received about two weeks ago." said Andros. "It is the first of six MARMC is scheduled to replace of the aging dive boats we currently operate, over the course of the next five years."

"Overall, everything was very good on this trip for us. During our visit here we have seen a lot of things that would be very beneficial for our Navy," said Commodore Ali Mousa Hayyan.

Lt. Cmdr. Scott Delwiche, a naval officer assigned to MARMC, accompanied the RNSF on this trip and summarized some his takeaways as to the benefits of this visit.

"The RNSF leadership had a chance to see how the relationships and interactions between the various departments and shops within the building affect the ships outside," said Delwiche. "The RNSF truly value what we do and our experience. Having their leadership come here and see how we do business, they can better model their efforts after ours."
