The Center for Naval Analyses hosted a future strategy forum in Arlington, Virginia, for Navy leaders April 22-23.

The forum, titled "U.S. Maritime Strategy in 2020-2025 and Beyond," included opening remarks from Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert who emphasized the need for more discussion on strategic issues and establishing a cadre of thinkers.

"Don't think about how the strategy is shaped by the future, think about how we can shape the future," he said.

The forum brought together a wide array of flag officers, academics, civilian strategists and foreign policy professionals.

Forum topics included the changing global strategic dynamics, technology's impact on strategy, the U.S. national security and military posture, and the future of seapower.

The two-day event was the first in a trilogy of strategy forums that will take place this year. The next events will be a current strategy forum in June hosted by Naval War College and an Allied strategy forum later this year.
