Members of the NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support (NAVSUP WSS) H-53 Performance-Based Logistics (PBL) Team accepted the 2014 Secretary of Defense PBL Component-level Award during a visit to NAVSUP WSS Philadelphia by Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Materiel Readiness, Lisha Adams June 26.

"Earlier today, Ms. Adams and our senior leadership had the opportunity to discuss several of NAVSUP WSS's accomplishments and initiatives - many of them very innovative," said Rear Adm. Paul J. Verrastro, commander, NAVSUP WSS, during the award ceremony. "Initiatives such as our new PBLs, our joint enterprise APU PBL, our P-8 LOGCELL, and even the support we provide every day. All of the great things you do are on our radar, and that is why we're here right now."

Adams then presented the award to industry and government team members, offering words of encouragement to the team and the audience alike.

"[NAVSUP WSS is] a true leader in PBLs," Adams said. "And while you have a legacy of leading and a great history, I look forward to what you're going to do next and how you're going to continue to be more efficient and effective going forward."

Following the awards ceremony, Adams spoke to NAVSUP WSS employees about current logistics career field trends and the importance of Product Support Managers to supply chain management.

Adams then opened the floor to questions, during which time NAVSUP WSS employees discussed Better Buying Power 2.0 and 3.0, Defense Acquisition University's role in life cycle logistics, and several other topics.

Later, Adams took the opportunity to listen to NAVSUP WSS Integrated Weapon Systems Teams and learned firsthand about employees' experiences with life cycle logistics, PBLs, and traditional support structures.
