At 10:29 a.m. a call was placed from Building one, an administrative building for the hospital, with an unconfirmed report of a gunshot. Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bethesda security forces responded and all base employees were directed to shelter in place. NCIS agents and other law enforcement completed their inspection and all personnel are safe and accounted for. NSA Bethesda, Montgomery County, federal law enforcement agencies and first responders worked together ensuring a timely and well-organized response.

Normal base operations have resumed. Non-emergency patient care at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center has been suspended for the remainder of July 6. There are no changes to emergency care.
